As far as pedigree goes, The Adventures of Tintin is certainly at the higher end of the spectrum.
Steven Spielberg is directing and producing (along with Peter Jackson). Edgard Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs the World), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and Steven Moffat (Sherlock) have written the script. WETA (arguably the best visual effects house in the world) is behind the performance-capture. The voice-cast is absolutely insane. So, yeah, it wouldn’t be wrong to say I’m freaking stoked for this film. And after months of whispers, stills and waiting, the first teaser is here. Watch it after the jump.
I really, really like the look of the film. It looks just like what a Tintin film should. Plus, the trailer indicates there’s going to be quite a lot of startling imagery here. I think the portentous music is a tad overdone, but no big deal. The other thing I’m not that fond of is the coda, which seems anticlimactic, but even that is made up for by Tintin’s eyes. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: When it comes to animating eyes, no one can outdo WETA.
Here’s the official synopsis -
Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures Present a 3D Motion Capture Film “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn” directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish. Starring Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot,” “Defiance”) as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig (“Quantum of Solace,” “Defiance”) as the nefarious Red Rackham.
You wouldn’t know just from reading that, but folks like Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are also in this thing.
The first posters were released for the film too. Here’s the international one (courtesy Empire) -

And here’s the one for the United States (courtesy Ain’t It Cool)

I just can’t decide which one I like more. The International poster looks smashing, wild fun… but the moody & sombre tone of the US one appeals to me too.
Paramount and Columbia are handling this one together. The Adventures of Tintin (going by the posters and the trailer, they seem to have removed ‘The Secret of the Unicorn’, thankfully) is out in the UK on 26th October, in the US on 23rd December and (I assume) in the rest of the world sometime in between that. I can’t wait!
